Brian and the team are delighted to be working with the good people at Distell this month, and look forward to offering our guests the beautiful Deanston 2008 Red Wine Cask Whisky throughout May.
Located 8 miles from Stirling near Doune and just 45 minutes from Edinburgh and Glasgow, Deanston Distillery sits by the River Teith at the entrance to the dramatic Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
Since 1785, the building was home to the Deanston Cotton Mill. In 1965, the Deanston Cotton Mill closed-down and was re-born as the home of Deanston hand crafted Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky. The distillery is powered by sustainable energy, created from the surrounding abundance of clear, soft water. What was once the weaving shed of the Cotton Mill, was found to be the perfect home for whisky maturation.
True to its heritage, Deanston still values traditional, handcrafted techniques. No modern technology is used and only the best local ingredients are sourced.
Upon the acquisition of some quality red wine casks from Bordeaux, this forward-thinking Distillery experimented, by maturing their outstanding malt whisky inside. Each year, they tested the spirit and the red wine cask maturation results. After nine years, they felt the whisky delivered a rich, deep flavour that was worth bottling. We think they were correct!
