    Happy New Year 2017 - blog of our reflection on 2016

    As we journey into the first day of 2017,

    we’re busy reflecting on 2016 and what we believe was an

    outstanding year for Le Chardon d’Or.

    It all began with a couple of very successful Sunday openings.  Valentine’s Day was very special this year with a few (successful) marriage proposals and a surprise visit from delightful guests Cameron Diaz and Nicole Richie.
     
    Another big Sunday event was a first time opening for Mother’s Day. Brian made amazing Yorkshire puddings to accompany a stunning Sunday roast that went down a treat to a restaurant full of deserving Mum’s. We intend on having an equally successful Mother’s Day on the 26th of March 2017 – bookings and enquiries are being taken now!

    Also, we cannot forget our annual Gala meal with Michel Roux Jnr.  Staff and guests were in awe of this amazing celebrity chef (and Brian’s very good friend) as he and Brian were re-united behind the stoves to produce what proved to be an unforgettable meal with stunning wines to match.  This is a treasured annual one night only event for Le Chardon d’Or, and we look forward to hosting for many years to come.

    Over the rest of 2016, we were delighted to host a Gin Experience and Lunch event every month – with lots of new and returning drinks ambassadors to teach us the fine art of distillation techniques and blending of botanicals.  Each event was a wonderful success and we will run one every month in 2017.  There may even be a couple of cocktail lunches (if Gin’s not your thing!) thrown in for good measure too. As ever, all upcoming dates are featured on our website or ‘Like’ our Facebook business page to hear about all special upcoming events…you may even get a sneaky picture or video and recipes off Brian on there too!

    We were over the moon to have enjoyed a close affiliation with the good people at the Isle of Harris Distillery. We offered complimentary tastings of their Harris Gin to our guests over the course of the 2016 and feel we played a monumental role in the gin’s ongoing popularity. In 2017 we are doing something very special with a Gin from Canada and specialist Beveridge’s from Sweden…but we don’t want give too much away, as we would prefer to see you to tell you all about it!

    2016's Wine dinners were some of our best yet. Featuring Henri Bourgeois of the Loire Valley in May and Sebastian Zuccardi’s exemplary wines from Argentina in September. Both dinners were very well received by our guests, as Brian designed outstanding dishes to complement all the wines featured.  These evenings are a ‘must attend’ if you’re into great wine and food matching techniques.  Again, all information can be found on our what’s on page on our site and as always Facebook our little birdie tweets about these occasions too!

    Brian’s Cookery demonstrations are so busy already for January and February, that we’ve had to add an extra date on for March 11th 2017.  Hints and tips are divulged during these sessions, following Brian’s many years of experience cooking in some of the finest kitchens in the world. 
    To top off a very busy and successful year, we were over the moon to accept the award from the Scottish Licenced Trade News for Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year 2016.  We have been honoured to win this award on three occasions now. Will we do it this year? Watch this space! Our young, dynamic team are focused and ready to take on that challenge!

    Apart from all this, we believe our biggest achievement this year was the success of each individual guest’s experience.  The many valued customers that have dined with us over the course of the year and shown us their continued support of our establishment has been phenomenal. 

    On this note we raise a glass to you all to say a warm and humble ‘thank you’ from Brian, Cal and all the team.

    We had a fantastic 2016, and we look toward another great year in 2017!
