Glengoyne 10 Year Old - Malt of April 2017

    Posted by Carlee Wilson

Glengoyne 10 to accompany our A La Carte Menu

Brian and the team are delighted to be working with the good people at Ian Macleod Distillers this month, and look forward to offering our guests the quality Glengoyne 10 as our single malt whisky of the month.

    Tradition

Almost to the letter, Glengoyne follows the principles its founders established. Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch whiskies are handcrafted with time-honoured skills passed down from one generation of distillers to the next.

    Un-peated

Unlike most other single malt whiskies, Glengoyne dries its malted barley using only warm air, resulting in an extremely subtle yet complex malt where all the delicate flavours are freely expressed.

    Patience

Glengoyne Distillery, located in Dumgoyne near Loch Lomond, is highly regarded as the most beautiful Scotch whisky distillery. It boasts the slowest distillation process in Scotland with patience the key to the Glengoyne journey – supporting the claim that Glengoyne genuinely is “Worth the Wait”.

    Glen4 (1)

“Our stills are Scotland’s slowest. Unhurried, our new spirit benefits from the gentlest of journeys – developing the unique Glengoyne flavour.”

    Oak casks

An investment of time and care, this beautiful Highland malt collection is matured in the finest sherry oak casks from Jerez in Southern Spain.

    Maturation

Up to six years from oak forest to Highland distillery, that’s how long it takes before the hand-selected casks are ready to receive the precious Glengoyne spirit.

They are stacked – only three high – for maturation in traditional cool stone-built dunnage warehouses for 10 to 20 years or more.

    Natural colour

From the golden hue of the 10 Year Old to the deep copper of the 21 Year Old, the colour of the Glengoyne whiskies comes from time and wood alone.

Testament to the award-winning qualities of the malt, Glengoyne was recently awarded a double gold medal for its 18 Year Old and 21 Year Old malts, gold for its 12 Year Old and silver for its 15 Year Old at the prestigious 2014 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

The Glengoyne collection includes the 10 Year Old, 12 Year Old, 15 Year Old, 18 Year Old, 21 Year Old, 25 Year Old, 35 Year Old and Cask Strength as well as special limited edition bottlings.

    Jolomo and Glengoyne

This year, Glengoyne has collaborated with renowned Scottish contemporary artist John Lowrie-Morrison OBE, or Jolomo as he is known, to create a new limited edition tin for its award-winning 10 Year Old. ‘Autumn Moon over Glengoyne’ is the first in a series of four paintings which will be turned into limited edition tins and released over a four-year period to raise funds for the The Glasgow School of Art Mackintosh Appeal, set up after a tragic fire damaged the art school in 2014. The paintings are inspired by Glengoyne Distillery in the changing seasons and each will adorn a limited edition tin holding a bottle of Glengoyne 10 Year Old. For every gift tin sold, Glengoyne will make a contribution to The Mackintosh Appeal. The four-year collaboration is expected to raise approximately £50,000.

  • The quality of the food every time I visit Le Chardon d’Or has been consistently outstanding. In addition, the personal touch Brian brings as he visits each table at the end of the meal, just adds to the occasion.
