Brian and the team at Le Chardon d’Or are honoured to announce on Wednesday the 30th of January 2019, we welcome Gilles Perrier from the prestigious wine family Jean Perrier et Fils, to showcase an array of their phenomenal Vins de Savoie.
The Savoie is a tiny alpine region on the border of France and Switzerland that produces wine with bright acidity and savoury minerals.
Since 1853, the Perrier family has produced wines in the unique and traditional Savoie style.
Producing around 135,000 hectolitres of the entire region including Savoie, Haute-Savoie, Isère and Ain.
Whites include Apremont to Méthode traditionelle of Savoie, with reds of Chignin, Gamay and Mondeuse. Vines for the whites are mostly planted on clay-limestone and the reds on granite and clay- limestone. Wines reflect the regions personality in their peoples quaint and rustic way of life. This has resulted in Savoyard wines gaining recognition for their outstanding quality on a
worldwide scale. Wines undergo a labour intense manual harvest, with gentle pneumatic pressing and strictly controlled temperaturate around 20 degrees Celsius. Most of the wines also complete malolactic fermentation to lower the acidity and avoid a secondary fermentation in the bottle.
This meticulous and exacting wine-making process has resulted in an extensive award-winning portfolio of wines for the Perrier family.
Upon tasting a selection of their wines Brian has designed a delectable four-course menu to complement.
