Plaisir de Merle Wine Dinner

Brian and the team are honoured to announce that on Wednesday the 5th of September, we welcome Distell to showcase winemaker Niel Bester, and his selection of exquisite wines from Plaisir de Merle, South Africa.

Niel has been at the helm since the inception of the winery. His career spans well over two decades, and his intimate knowledge of the vineyards imbues his winemaking with a true sense of place. He has harnessed the unique terroir of the Simondium area to capture the story of the valley, watched over by a monolithic mountain, in every bottle of wine he makes.  
Niel has travelled the world to gain more vinous knowledge, the most fundamental time spent abroad when he worked at Château Mârgaux in Bordeaux under the seminal influence of Dr Paul Pontallier.  Dr Pontallier continued to consult with Plaisir de Merle for over a decade, visiting South Africa at least once a year to taste and blend with Niel. It’s a legacy that lives on in the classically styled yet New World terroir-driven range of wines.

Upon tasting a selection from this outstanding portfolio, Brian has designed a delectable four-course menu to complement the wines. We hope you can join us for what promises to be an exceptional evening of fine wine and food. Beginning at 7pm and including introductions of the featured wines from our host and food matches described by Brian. All followed by tea, coffee and handmade chocolates. £85 per person; seats will be limited.
