LAN Rioja Wine Dinner

Brian and the team at Le Chardon d’Or are honoured to announce on Wednesday, November 7th we welcome Trinidad Villegas from the prestigious Bodegas Winery LAN, to showcase an array of their award-winning wines.

Bodegas LAN is revered amongst wine experts as a consistent producer of top-class Rioja, in both traditional and modern styles. The name LAN comes from an acronym based on the initials of the three provinces that form the DOCa Rioja; Logroño, Alava and Navarra. Since the winery’s inception in 1972, honesty has been the foundation their winemaking ethos; with each wine produced to reflect, honour and respect the land it comes from.

                     LAN Lanscape (1)

LAN’s Viña Lanciano vineyard is arguably one of Rioja’s most spectacular, its soils are stony and produce small yields with early to ripen fruit. Small plots make up its 72 hectares, all surrounded by the river Ebro; this unique position provides a natural protection of the vineyards and facilitates the growth of premium quality grapes. Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Graciano and Garnacha vines, are grown here in its distinct climate, resulting in grapes with great depth and personality.

Respecting the earth and the balance of nature is part of LAN’s identity. Any efforts to support sustainable viticulture practices are always adhered to; refusing to use any kind of chemical fertilizers and the fact hand-harvesting is practiced throughout the estate, is testament to their dedication of exquisite care for their grapes. Bunches and grains are individually selected by hand to ensure that only perfect clusters of certain quality make it through to the next stage. Protected from the winds and cold weather by the Sierra Cantabria and its proximity to the river, enables the estate to follow sustainable viticulture practices. This is done to reinforce the vines natural defences and provides a suitable environment that favours aeration and optimum sunshine levels on the bunches.

Each stage of fermentation and ageing, both in the barrel and bottle, follows a principle of extreme respect for grapes. With LAN winemakers capturing each vineyard’s distinctive features in every bottle.

A meticulous oak selection is used along with malolactic fermentation methods which transforms the estates musts into balanced, unctuous and delectably round wines.

There are so many styles and personalities in this family of wines that you can enjoy different experiences with each one of them.

Upon tasting a selection from this premium portfolio, Brian has designed a delectable four course menu to complement these outstanding wines. Join us, for what promises to be an outstanding evening of fine wine and food; beginning at 7pm and including introductions of the featured wines from our host and food matches described by Brian; followed with tea, coffee and hand-made chocolates.

At £85 per person, seats will be limited.
