On Tuesday 1st September 2009, Richard Bouglet from l’Art du Vin will host a wine dinner on ‘Occitania’, the south-west of France and its wines. Richard is a director of L’Art du Vin, an Edinburgh-based wine merchant that focuses on sourcing wines from small-scale producers, many of which are either organic or biodynamic.
Occitania encompasses the southern half of France, and is a term that was coined to refer to the area within which Occitan, a latin-based language that is in many ways similar to Catalan, was the dominant language.
In terms of wine, Occitania’s legacy includes some of the world’s most fascinating and unique grape varieties that are indigenous to the area. These varieties have been in existence since Roman times, outstripping by far those such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, with which we are all so familiar, and the region has been producing wine for a lot longer than its more famous counterparts such as Bordeaux or Burgundy. Grape varieties cultivated include, amongst others, Tannat, Negrette, Fer Servadou, Gros and Petit Manseng, and Mauzac.
The south-west’s varietal tapestry complements the country’s hugely diverse gastronomic heritage, making wines from this area the perfect accompaniment to Brians’ cuisine
This is an evening not be missed and due to sponsorship from L’Art du Vin we can offer this fantastic evening at £65.
Your night will comprise of a 7pm reception, which will then be followed by a 4 course dinner specially designed to compliment each wine.
